Everton have responded to Branthwaite bid from Manchester United - report

Everton have already rejected the opening bid from Manchester United for Jarrad Branthwaite, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The outlet reported on their website on 14 June that the offer, worth around £35million, has been deemed unacceptable and turned down.

Everton will reportedly consider a sale before the end of the month but to strengthen their profit and sustainability position, but will not do so for such a fee.

The Toffees are believed to be holding out for at least £70m for the 21-year-old [talkSPORT, 11 June] although United are said to think they can sign him for a significantly cut down price thanks to financial pressures at Goodison Park [Mirror, 14 June].

Everton reject unacceptable Jarrad Branthwaite bid

It should come as little surprise that the club have dismissed the opening offer in a short time since, even if they are under pressure to sell before 30 June, the fee is inadequate for Branthwaite.

Cost cutting measures behind the scenes are supposed to have been sufficient to avoid a fire sale this summer, even though Kevin Thelwell has admitted that players will have to leave.

There are a number of names whom the Toffees would be willing to part with before their star England international though, even if they accept that they perhaps couldn’t refuse a huge bid for him.

Jarrad Branthwaite is now a prized asset at Everton.

Although major money is arriving at the club this summer to ease the danger of administration in light of the ongoing takeover uncertainty, there are also two transfer fees to pay out this month already.

The prospect of Sean Dyche being able to sign anyone to boost his squad is thought to be contingent on sales, but the manager would surely prefer to keep Branthwaite than have to replace him.

Either way, it looks like Manchester United do indeed believe that they can pick up a huge bargain based on their starting offer, but it has been given short shrift on Merseyside.

In other Everton news, a Toffees ace has rejected a new contract and could now be sold this summer.
