Everton in hunt to sign Chelsea midfielder on loan - report

Everton are in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu on loan this summer, according to Foot Mercato.

The French outlet reported via their website on 13 July that the Stamford Bridge midfielder is set for a temporary move this summer and the Toffees are hoping to bring him in.

Everton are the only one of three Premier League clubs said to be interested who are named in the report, while there is thought to also be a suitor in Ligue 1 and further interest elsewhere in Europe.

Ugochukwu, 20, is currently with Thierry Henry’s French Under-21s ahead of the Olympics and Foot Mercato’s Sebastien Denis reported via X that his preference is to stay in the English top flight.

Chelsea ace could replace Amadou Onana at Everton

Amadou Onana’s time at Goodison Park is expected to come to an end this summer after two seasons, according to Alan Myers on 14 June, amid interest in England and abroad.

Sean Dyche has already seen Tim Iroegbunam arrive on a permanent deal from Aston Villa to boost his midfield options but that has only covered for the exit of Andre Gomes as his contract expired.

Despite a long-term hamstring injury keeping Ugochukwu out from December to May last season he showed positive signs in 15 appearances under Mauricio Pochettino after his £23.1million move a year ago [Sky Sports].

But he is behind a pair of £100m-plus midfielders in Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo at Stamford Bridge, as well as big-money Romeo Lavia.

From a Toffees point of view it looks to make perfect sense for Kevin Thelwell to have positioned the club prominently in the race to bring him in and could prove to be an excellent signing on loan.

Lesley Ugochukwu prefers a Premier League move with Everton ready to sign him.

The French midfielder is not the only Chelsea player who Everton are interested in this summer with Armando Broja heavily linked as a potential replacement for the exit-bound Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Both are young and have a major injury on their recent record but Ugochukwu is probably the more attractive option compared to the Albanian international striker.

In other Everton news, Dyche is planning a “spectacular” revival at Goodison Park as a new permanent signing closes in.
