Everton player rejects Saudi offer to leave Goodison - report

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has rejected a three-year deal from a Saudi Pro League club, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

The Belgian journalist reported via his personal X account on Saturday (13 July) that the 22-year-old wants to stay in the Premier League this summer amid links with a Goodison Park exit.

It is understood that Al-Ahli are one of those sides interested in the Belgian, though they were waiting to find out more about Onana before making an offer to the Toffees.

Amadou Onana could still yet leave Everton

With interest from Arsenal and Manchester United, it is still likely that the Toffees will begin the 2024/25 campaign without Onana within Sean Dyche’s ranks.

However, with the addition of Tim Iroegbunam, the manager will not be without reinforcements if the Belgian is to depart this summer.

Having signed from Lille for £33million in 2022, as per BBC Sport, a move to Saudi Arabia would have represented the Toffees with the best chance of making the most profit.

However, with Onana making his stance clear, and Everton not being pressured so much by PSR concerns, the club may be able to bump up the price if Premier League clubs come calling again.

It is reported by Mundo Deportivo [2 July] that Barcelona are also interested in the player’s signature this summer, though a move to Spain may take some convincing after the latest transfer update.

The loss of Onana would certainly be a blow this summer, but he has made it clear on several occasions that a move away from Goodison Park is a very real possibility.

While the player is still under contract, it could make more sense to cash in on Onana rather than keep him around and make him unhappy.

The club must be careful which team they sell him to if he is to stay in the Premier League, however.
