Exclusive: Leicester City to be hit by devastating double points deduction blow

Leicester City are likely to face two points deductions next season in a devastating double blow due to their challenging financial situation, sources have told Football Insider. 

Leicester were charged in March with a breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR) for 2022-23 and are staring down the barrel of a points deduction.

Sources say the club are now likely to commit a further breach for 2023-24 as they prepare to submit their accounts on 30 June.

The recent promotion bonuses handed out to the squad have increased their spending after Enzo Maresca helped mastermind an immediate return to the top flight.

Football Insider revealed Leicester received £9million in compensation following the Italian manager’s departure to Chelsea, but that isn’t expected to bridge the gap in their losses.

It is now increasingly likely two points deductions will be heading to the King Power next season barring any major player sales taking place over the coming days.

Leicester could land two points deduction after PSR issues

It’s been a troublesome past few months for Leicester as they await to hear whether they will be hit with a points deduction after reporting losses of £89.7million in 2022-23.

But that hasn’t impacted matters on the pitch after they claimed the Championship title last season to secure a return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has told Football Insider the club are likely to hear an update on their anticipated points deduction next week.

According to The Telegraph, Leicester could now face a record-breaking deduction of 15 points if they are found guilty of their breach.

That could be followed by a further points deduction later in the season as they are likely to break the PSR rules again for 2023-24, with clubs only permitted to lose £105million over three years.

Steve Cooper will be the man charged with steering the ship at the King Power after he was recently appointed as Maresca’s replacement.
