Exclusive: Tomori responds to Newcastle approach

Fikayo Tomori is likely to reject any offer from Newcastle United this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed last week that Newcastle have made contact with the defender’s representatives about a potential move to St James’ Park.

The 26-year-old joined Milan from Chelsea in 2021 and Eddie Howe’s side had tested the waters about a possible return to England.

However, Tomori does not regard a move to Newcastle as a step up from AC Milan and let it be known to his camp that he believes the Italian giants are “a bigger club” than the Magpies.

Tomori is contracted to AC Milan until 2027 and has been a constant in their side since leaving Chelsea in search of improved game time.

His £25million switch from West London saw Tomori win Serie A in his first season in Milan, and he has now made 142 appearances for the club.

The five-cap England international has also made 21 appearances in the Champions League and seven in the Europa League.

That top-level experience adds to the intrigue around his availability, but with Newcastle having missed out on European competitions next season, a move would be a step down from Milan.

Newcastle remain in the market for another centre-back after agreeing a deal to sign Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth, while Chelsea pipped them to a deal for Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham.

This comes after Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles suffered long-term injuries, increasing the need for depth at the back.

In other news, Newcastle could now hijack a move from Bournemouth.
