Exclusive: Tottenham plot January midfielder and forward deals

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is keen to add a new defensive midfielder and winger to his squad in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has come under pressure for the lack of investment in the senior squad in recent weeks.

The club spent heavily on young duo Wilson Odobert and Archie Gray in the off-season but neither have had a tangible impact on results so far in the 2024-25 campaign.

Postecoglou is keen for the club’s hierarchy to rectify the situation by giving him the tools to improve in the second half of this season.

Sources say a defensive midfield and winger signings are wanted with Spurs vying to make a tilt at a first trophy since 2008.

Tottenham will press ahead with moves in the two areas if the right targets are available in the new year.

Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were shipped out of the club in the summer window but neither player was replaced.

Meanwhile, Odobert came in to play in a winger role after joining from Burnley – but played just 182 minutes of action before suffering a hamstring injury.
