Newcastle United are assessing every area of their squad for improvements ahead of a potential January spending spree.
This is according to former Man United, Sunderland and Blackburn scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game as he exclusively told Football Insider that Eddie Howe has made a list of priority positions to target.
That list includes a new right winger, after Football Insider exclusively revealed the Magpies are tracking a deal to sign Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.
However, they remain open to strengthening every position as they aim to achieve European qualification after missing out last season.
Newcastle were compared to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City as Brown insisted they are always looking at areas for improvement, armed with money to spend in January.
The club are believed to have plenty of money to spend should they choose to, having made offers of up to £70million for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi in the summer.
Newcastle United line up multiple January transfer deals
However, it has also been said that concerns have lingered about their financial situation after they were forced to sell players to stay within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability constraints ahead of the summer window.
However, Brown, who has a wealth of experience in recruitment at the top level went on to insist that the club will be well aware of what they can and can’t spend, and want to be active in the January window.
“I’ve heard they are looking to complete some deals in January,” he told Football Insider.
“There are still some concerns over their financial situation after what happened in the summer.
“But they’re considering options in every position to sign players who they believe can improve their team in the transfer window.
“Just like the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City will be doing, they want to keep improving.
“That means identifying areas where they may not be particularly strong or where they might not have much depth, and improving upon that.
“They obviously can’t go into January signing a new player in every position, but Howe will have a list of his priorities and where they want to improve.
“They’ll know what they can and can’t spend, and they’re always looking to improve.”
In other news, a major update has emerged on Newcastle signing a 24-year-old forward.
