Tottenham are open to seeing Cristian Romero leave the club if they can land a replacement, according to the club’s former scout.
Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout at Man United and Blackburn Rovers, and remains very well-connected at the club, exclusively told Football Insider that questions have emerged about the 26-year-old’s role in the side.
Tottenham’s defensive issues have long been a concern under Ange Postecoglou, with Romero a regular presence at the heart of their back line.
As a result, it has been suggested that his exit could allow Spurs to reset their back line and invest in improving their options.
Football Insider revealed on 15 November that Spurs will demand a “huge” offer for the centre-back if they are to entertain talks over his exit.
Brown, meanwhile, has explained that they will accept a significant offer if they can identify a replacement on whom the money would be spent.
This comes amid reported interest from Real Madrid, who have turned their attention to the Argentina international to help resolve their defensive injury crisis.

Football Insider also revealed on 16 November that Romero is part of a group of at least four players involved in a training ground bust-up with Postecoglou.
Now, Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and spent over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the club will be forced to make a decision over the defender’s future.
“If the interest from Real Madrid is genuine, they’ve got a decision to make,” he told Football Insider.
“There are some concerns about him at Tottenham because of their defensive issues.
“Now, there are a number of reasons for those issues and the blame isn’t solely on him, but as a big part of that defence, there are question marks about his performances.
“He’s also error-prone which is something the team can’t really afford to carry in their situation.
“If you look at teams like Arsenal and Man City, the top teams, their stability is built on players like William Saliba and Ruben Dias.
“These are players that you know, in the heart of your defence, you can rely on.
“Is Romero that sort of player for Tottenham? Not for me.
“So I think they could look at think, if we can get big money, we’ll take it and reinvest in a player who might provide that stability.
“It might not be worth the risk of destabilising the back line unless it’s big money though, it needs to be enough to reinvest properly.”
