Expert View: Tottenham want £80m for ‘Outstanding’ first-team ace amid Real Madrid speculation

Bryan King claims Tottenham would demand £80million to sell centre-back Cristian Romero amid interest from Real Madrid.

The ex-Spurs scout has described the World Cup winner as an “outstanding” member of Ange Postecoglou’s squad in North London.

As reported by Football London (19 June), Spurs have no interest in allowing Romero to leave the club amid speculation linking him with Real Madrid.

But King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the 26-year-old does have a price.

“This can only be a good thing for Spurs, that they have players attracting interest from the likes of Real Madrid,” King said.

“Romero is a World Cup winner, he speaks the language, but he will cost a lot.

“Tottenham will want to sell him for more than they paid, they will be looking for around £80million for him.

“Romero has been outstanding for the club and he is under contract, so the ball is in their court.”

At the moment there is no indication that Madrid have followed up on their interest in Romero.

Tottenham won’t want to lose the defender ahead of Postecoglou’s second season in charge, with Romero set to be a key player once again during the 2024/25 campaign.

However, if Madrid were to step up their interest then keeping hold of the centre-back could prove difficult.

Luckily for Daniel Levy with Romero under contract until 2027 Tottenham hold all the power.

They would be able to demand a lucrative fee, and £80million would likely only be the starting point for any negotiations that take place.
