Ferguson shares Hagi 'disappointment' at Rangers ahead of Spurs showdown

Barry Ferguson is disappointed that Ianis Hagi won’t feature for Rangers against Tottenham in the Europa League.

The former Gers skipper has been delighted to see the progress the Romania international has made in recent weeks after being forced to play for the B-team at Auchenhowie.

Philippe Clement has started to rely on the 26-year-old, but the playmaker won’t feature for the Light Blues against Spurs on 12 December at Ibrox as he hasn’t been registered for the competition.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show [9 December], Ferguson said: “I’m delighted for Hagi because it must’ve been tough for him, the last four or five months. Not knowing where his career is going. Training alone and then playing in the B-team games.

“But he’s certainly come on and shown his worth. He’s been good. But the only disappointment is that it would’ve been good to have them available for Thursday night to play a part.”

Ianis Hagi a big miss for Rangers v Tottenham

Hagi will undoubtedly be a big miss for the Bears against a tough opposition like Tottenham despite their poor run of form recently.

Spurs have lost their last two matches in the Premier League and were beaten by Chelsea 4-3 at home on Sunday [8 December].

The Romanian has started for the Glaswegian outfit in three consecutive Scottish Premiership games, providing two assists in the 6-0 drubbing of Kilmarnock on 4 December.

Hagi was also pivotal for Rangers against St Johnstone as the midfielder forced the error from Jason Holt, who scored an own goal in the Gers’ 1-0 win.

Along with the 26-year-old, Danilo is another player who won’t be available for the Bears at Ibrox.

Clement has found success with the two in the team, and it remains to be seen how the Belgian will set up as Ange Postecoglou makes his way back to Glasgow.

Hagi has shown incredible mental and physical fortitude to return from his exile, and it’s truly a shame that the Ibrox faithful won’t be able to witness the playmaker’s magic in the Europa League.

In other Rangers news, John Souttar has received praise for what he did in the Ross County win.
