Finance Expert says Levy not afraid after controversial Tottenham ticket move

Daniel Levy made a “business-driven” decision to automatically charge Tottenham fans early for the Europa League game against Elfsborg, Dan Plumley has said.

Spurs fans were left furious and were looking at ways to cancel the automatic payments for a game that is three months after the day of charging in January [THST].

Plumley, a football finance expert, admitted that Levy knows the risk of that game attendance being lower than others when looking at the financial motives, which isn’t a great look.

“It’s certainly a business-motivated decision,” he exclusively told Tottenham News.

“That is for sure because you can see how it is playing out in the mind of Daniel Levy, that attendance has a risk of being lower than normal as some of your season-ticket holders may choose not to attend that game because it’s one of those fixtures post-Christmas that fans may not go to.

You can see the financial motives behind that and it will be a considerable amount of money in terms of the amount of season ticket holders times the matchday fee.

Daniel Levy saga yet again at Tottenham

“It’s a business-driven decision, but how many times have we seen Daniel Levy make those calls and we know how hard he is in any negotiations on business terms, so I think the optics are understandably not going to look great and I understand that from the fans, but he has shown time and time again that he is not afraid to go down that road.”

This is just the latest in a long string of Levy decisions that thought of the fans last.

Before the season even started, season ticket prices were raised by six per cent as well as standard tickets going up, in what was not the last ticket-related saga of the year.

With possible investment talks with Amanda Staveley though, these types of decisions may not be happening for much longer.

In other Tottenham news, the club are interested in signing a £50million-rated defender.
