Frank Lampard & Rangers details emerge as he finds new job - report

Frank Lampard has taken charge as the new Coventry City manager, but was strongly under consideration to take the reins at Ibrox last October, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via their website on 28 November that many Ibrox figures thought the Englishman should have been given the job purely based on his strong contacts with Chelsea and Manchester City.

Lampard also made a strong impression with his presentation during the interview process, although the Light Blues eventually chose Philippe Clement as the ideal replacement for Michael Beale.

With Clement struggling as Rangers manager, one can only wonder how things would have been if Lampard was hired instead of him last year.

It is no secret that the Chelsea legend was in contention to replace Beale as the Gers’ boss as he even made it into the final round of interviews [Keith Jackson].

The senior figures in Govan might be regretting opting for Clement as the team now sit third in the Scottish Premiership table, 11 points behind arch-rivals Celtic.

However, it is also understandable if the hierarchy had reservations about Lampard, who averaged only a point in his 44 games as Everton’s manager between January 2022 and January 2023.

The 46-year-old also struggled during his stint as Chelsea’s caretaker manager at the back end of last season.

With Clement under increasing pressure, Lampard had again been mooted as a potential option for Rangers, but he will now look to take Coventry to the Premier League.
