Gary Lineker says £8m Liverpool player is even better than Man Utd’s £30m man

Euro 2024 starts on Friday, and we’re being treated to a great fixture to kick things off.

Indeed, Germany face Scotland in the opener as the hosts look to get off to a great start, while the Scots look to upset the odds.

Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have been assessing the Scotland team and their chances at this tournament.

Lineker and Shearer both had plenty of praise to dish out for Andy Robertson.

The £8m Liverpool man was described as top left-back by Shearer, while Lineker stated that he’d have the Liverpool star in the England team even if Luke Shaw was fit.

Lineker spoke about Robertson and the £30m Manchester United man alongside Alan Shearer.

“He’s very very good, in the modern day, you have to get up and down and you have to be good on the ball and have the ability to whip balls into the box, and he has all of that. For me he’d get into the England team no doubts. Even if everyone was fit he would still get in,” Shearer said.

“Shaw has been injured, but even if he was fit, I’d still put Robertson ahead of Shaw,” Lineker said.

Scotland’s strength is England’s weakness

There’s going to be a lot said about the Scotland and England teams over the next few weeks, but one thing is for sure, Scotland’s strength is England’s weakness.

Indeed, that left-back spot is where Scotland are thriving at the moment, while England can’t seem to find a left-back for love nor money.

Scotland have Robertson, Kieran Tierney and Aaron Hickey as arguably three of their best players, while England will likely have to start the Euros with Kieran Trippier playing out of position down the left.

Robertson is probably the one Scottish player Gareth Southgate wishes he could call upon this summer.
