'Get These Guys On Board' - Pundit reacts to Rangers Far East takeover talk

Rangers need to take takeover interest seriously if they are to bridge the widening gap to Celtic, says Derek Ferguson.

There has been intermittent talk of interest from the Far East in a potential buy out at Ibrox, which was discussed on PLZ Soccer on 23 September amid a call to replace the fractured ownership structure with a single entity in charge.

Ferguson believes no options should be ignored for a club in need of financial help and if there are options from Asia who want to buy in or take over then talks need to be held to determine whether it would be right for Rangers.

He exclusively told Ibrox News: “Yeah, something needs to give. It’s clear as day because if we keep going in the manner which we have been over the last number of years we’re only going to be finishing second best.

“That’s not good enough for the fans, because they are a loyal fanbase, and they come in huge numbers. They deserve better.

“If that’s the case and there’s guys from the Far East or wherever, listen let’s sit round the table, do our homework, due diligence, get these guys on board.

“Of course they’ll want certain things but sometimes you’ve just got to suck it up and get on with it. Rangers have got to move forward in that regard and try to get some investment from wherever it is.”

If there is a way for the current investors to plot a feasible path forward then fans would surely be happy enough to go along with it, but they’ve had the time and have taken things in the opposite direction in recent years.

Dave King is on the outside throwing stones and talking up a plan to return as chairman in order to seek overseas investment [Rangers Review, 15 September] but largely opposed by others in the hierarchy.

Supporters blame the current administration for mismanagement of a club which completed the long, hard climb back to the summit of Scottish football for title 55 only to throw away that supremacy with repeated mistakes.

In the current context of three Celtic title wins and a wide expectation of a fourth to follow this term anything that shakes up the status quo is likely to have a groundswell of support, and if that is entirely new ownership with deeper pockets even more so, as long as those that come in have a viable plan and the right intentions.
