Goodison View: Everton can now sign goal machine at discount for just £6m as PL rivals make move

Everton can now secure the services of Blackburn Rovers striker Sammie Szmodics for a 70 per cent discount with Ipswich Town closing in on his services.

TWTD reported on 12 July that the newly-promoted Premier League side are looking to seal a deal for £6million plus add-ons for the 28-year-old with a fee agreed with the Championship outfit.

The Toffees, who were keen on signing the Republic of Ireland international, were initially quoted a £20million transfer fee but he’s understood to be leaving for a fraction of that amount. [Alan Nixon, April 28]

The Toffees should seize the opportunity to sign Szmodics from Blackburn, especially now that Ipswich Town is close to securing his services for a significantly reduced fee.

The initial £20million valuation has dropped to £6million plus add-ons, making Szmodics a more affordable option and he should clear his medical without any issues either.

The 28-year-old striker has proven his scoring prowess in the Championship, finishing as the top scorer last season with 27 strikes to his name.

Everton have been in need of a reliable goalscorer and Szmodics could be the solution to their attacking problems.

His potential addition to the squad would reduce the pressure on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and add depth to Sean Dyche’s

Moreover, Szmodics’ desire to play in the Premier League would mean that he’d be open to moving to Goodison Park.

This, coupled with the significantly reduced transfer fee, makes him a potentially valuable asset for the Merseyside club and they must make a move quickly.
