'I think...' - Alan Myers shares new transfer admission as Everton work on deals

Everton are understood to be working on deals to sign a new winger and defender during the summer transfer window, according to Alan Myers.

Sean Dyche has already added Tim Iroegbunam and Iliman Ndiaye in the opening weeks of the transfer window, but the Toffees look set to miss out on the signature of Hull City star Jaden Philogene [The Mirror, 12 July].

Despite appearing to suffer that setback, Sky Sports journalist Myers believes that the Blues are still working to strengthen at both ends of the pitch, but admits it isn’t clear where they will look to add next.

Replying to a fan on X (12 July) who asked: “Hi Al, are we after two wingers? And what about defenders? RB, LB and CB,” Myers said: “I think atm there could be a winger and a defender being worked on, other than that anyone’s guess.”

Are Everton close to any new signings in the summer transfer window at Goodison Park?

While the start of the transfer window has been incredibly positive for the Toffees, there is still plenty of work required to help Dyche’s side ahead of the new campaign with a couple of additions still needed.

So much could depend on who departs Goodison Park in the coming weeks as speculation continues to swirl around the futures of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana who have been linked with moves away.

Signing a winger is almost a non-negotiable for Everton as at the moment the only options available to Dyche are Jack Harrison and Dwight McNeil. Ultimately, there is no real plan B available for the Blues manager at this time.

Similar is true at fullback where the Blues are reliant on the likes of Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman as Nathan Patterson makes his way back from injury.

Hopefully, Myers is right and Everton are working to recruit in both those areas.

In other Everton news, a Dele Alli contract twist has emerged at Goodison Park amid negotiations with Tottenham this summer.
