Everton have been handed a green signal to sign former Liverpool and Barcelona midfielder Arthur Melo this summer.

The Brazilian’s agent Federico Pastorello has confirmed that the 27-year-old is set to leave Juventus this summer.

He also went on record to claim that a number of clubs have been in talks over a transfer in the coming weeks.

Fabrizio Romano quoted him as saying: “We are talking to several clubs about Arthur as he will leave Juventus, they don’t count on him.”

The Brazil international won an award for the best newcomer in Serie A in 2017, but it’s fair to say that his career hasn’t picked up as many thought it would.

Liverpool thought that he could be a shrewd signing on loan for them but all he could do was play one Champions League game.

Despite this, the Toffees remain interested and TuttoSport reported on 17 June that talks are being readied over a potential transfer for the Brazil international.

Signing him could be a strategic move to bolster their midfield, especially if key players like Amadou Onana leave the club and the fact that his agent has gone on record means that it’ll be easier to get the deal over the line.

The Toffees’ next steps would likely involve negotiating a deal with Juventus, ensuring Arthur’s fitness after his injury-plagued stint at Liverpool and integrating him into the squad under manager Sean Dyche.

The Merseyside club’s pursuit of the 27-year-old reflects a strategy to strengthen the team while navigating financial constraints, potentially making him a cost-effective option to enhance their midfield options.

In other Everton news, Alan Myers claims that the club will announce a new signing in July and not before the end of June.
