Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s Everton exit to Newcastle United collapsed due to the striker failing to agree terms, according to The Athletic.

Writing on their website (29 June), the news outlet report that the Magpies and Toffees were in talks for a swap deal that would have seen Yankuba Minteh move to Goodison Park with Calvert-Lewin heading to St James’ Park in separate transactions to help with both clubs’ respective PSR issues.

But Newcastle pulled out of negotiations to kill both deals [Alan Myers, 24 June], and the reason for that was because they couldn’t agree personal terms with the 27-year-old striker.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin Everton exit not dead

Everton are expected to make some sales this summer, with Jarrad Branthwaite wanted by Manchester United, Amadou Onana targeted by several clubs and Calvert-Lewin attracting interest too.

The club are desperate to keep hold of Branthwaite though, valuing him at £70million, while a move for Onana is expected to be allowed so long as they receive a fair offer.

However with Calvert-Lewin the situation is different as they want to keep the striker, offering him a new deal [Liverpool Echo, 31 May], but he isn’t inclined to pen an extension [Times, 22 June] and has just one year remaining on his contract.

Newcastle’s interest in the striker is clearly not dead [Luke Edwards, 24 June], while Brentford and West Ham are also said to be interested [Chronicle Live, 25 June] in getting a deal done too, so his exit could well happen later in the window.

After the June 30th PSR deadline it will be more in the Toffees’ control, but his contract status means they’re limited with their leverage and things could change quickly.

In other Everton news, a new Goodison Park transfer is “guaranteed” now with a medical complete according to Fabrizio Romano.
