View: Exit-linked Everton star may reject new Goodison contract after transfer talks

Everton boss Sean Dyche may have already started adding to his squad this summer, but he will likely be just as eager to keep his star players at Goodison Park.

The Toffees have already received plenty of interest in Jarrad Branthwaite whilst Amadou Onana has been linked with the exit door. Still, in recent weeks speculation has been rife around Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future.

Newcastle United were understood to be weighing up a summer move for the England international [The Telegraph, 23 May] but recent reports have suggested that no deal was reached as the two parties couldn’t agree on personal terms [The Athletic, 29 June].

On the face of it, this is good news for the Blues as it means they are now much less likely to lose their most consistent source of goals this summer, however, this development could pose another threat.

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin leave Everton for Newcastle United in summer transfer window?

Everton are eager to tie Calvert-Lewin down to a new contract this summer as his current deal is due to expire at the end of next season. An offer has reportedly been made, but there has been no indication that terms have been agreed [TEAMtalk, 29 May].

Some have speculated that the striker’s demands could well be too rich for the Toffees. That is little more than speculation, however, you have to wonder whether the Blues can afford his services if Newcastle weren’t able to.

Eddie Howe’s side are being impacted by PSR at this moment in time which has restricted what they can do in the market, but they are also incredibly wealthy and will likely have been able to offer Calvert-Lewin a good contract.

Dyche’s side will hope their offer is good enough to see the centre-forward put pen to paper, but the latest update out of St James’ Park could prove to be a roadblock to the Toffees’ negotiations.

Hopefully, Everton will be able to find a way to agree on new terms with Calvert-Lewin this summer as they cannot afford to lose their most consistent centre-forward for nothing in 12 months’ time.
