Man City are bracing themselves for Erling Haaland offers with Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint Germain all circling – and the player holds all the aces as negotiations over a new contract continue.
Discussions between the player and club have been ongoing, with sources indicating City will relent and agree to the inclusion of a release clause in Haaland’s new deal.
The striker holds all the cards thanks to his remarkable start to the season, leading Man City’s title charge with nine goals in their opening four Premier League games.
Haaland and his representatives should use this remarkable vein of form, as well as interest from the continent, to nail City to the wall and earn a Premier League record-breaking contract that would blow even the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and Mo Salah out of the water.
Erling Haaland looking for way out of Man City
According to Spanish outlet El Nacional, the Norway international is expected to be available for €120million (£101.3million) next summer and the three European clubs are already working on a deal behind the scenes
Given Barcelona’s dire financial situation, a move to the Camp Nou is unlikely, unless president Joan Laporta can find numerous new ‘economic levers’ to pull.
For PSG, however, money would be no object now that Kylian Mbappe’s vast wages are off their books – Haaland’s reported £375,000-a-week wages would be more than doable for the Qatari-backed super-club.
Unfortunately, the French giants have become a victim of their own success, as the lack of competition in Ligue 1 has led to declining viewership.
Club presidents recently had to agree to a TV deal with DAZN and BeIN Sports which is a 12.3 per cent decrease from their previous contract.
Madrid seems the most likely destination for Haaland should he decide to leave Man City, with the European champions able to offer the prestige and money needed to get such a deal over the line.
For now, the big Norwegian will be focused on winning as much silverware with City as possible as they prepare to face title rivals Arsenal in what could be an early title decider on Sunday (September 22).
In other news, Man City have already landed £20m+ profit after transfer agreed.
