James Tarkowski has stressed the need for Jarrad Branthwaite to be patient after he returned to action for Everton.
The 22-year-old made his first appearance for the Toffees since last month in their 1-1 draw with Fulham at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday (26 October), coming on as a late substitute.
As Branthwaite works towards regaining his form, Tarkowski believes it will take him some time to get back to his best, having had a frustrating start to the season.
“He has had a real broken pre-season and early season, so it is going to take time for him to get up to the level he was at,” Tarkowski said via the Liverpool Echo (29 October).
“He has got to be a bit patient with himself, but it is pleasing to see him back on the pitch because we know how good he has been for us and how good he will be for us.”
Everton boosted by Jarrad Branthwaite return
Branthwaite came on for Dwight McNeil in the 86th minute of the game against Fulham and had little time to make an impact, although Everton went on to score a stoppage-time equaliser courtesy of Beto.
According to FotMob, the England international made two clearances and completed two passes (50 per cent accuracy) during his time on the pitch.
However, Branthwaite getting a few minutes under his belt was more important and everyone at the club will be delighted to see him back on the pitch.
It now remains to be seen if the centre-back will be handed a start when Sean Dyche and Co. travel to Southampton this Saturday (2 November).
Joe Thomas has said that he would be surprised if Branthwaite was not in the starting XI to face the Saints.
Overall, Everton are currently in a good position, having remained unbeaten in five games and eased Branthwaite back into the team.
In other Everton news, Richard Keys has made a new claim about Dyche after the draw against Fulham at the weekend.
