Josh Keeley’s FA Cup goal for Leyton Orient will stay with him forever as the goalkeeper continues to impress away from Tottenham, Paul Robinson has said.
The 21-year-old loanee was an unlikely goalscorer in the O’s dramatic 2-1 victory against Oldham Athletic on 30 November, scoring an equaliser in the eighth minute of added time before winning in extra time.
Keeley has made 10 appearances since leaving North London on a season-long loan, keeping four clean sheets in that time and even hitting the back of the net in the FA Cup.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “It’s a moment he’ll never forget for the rest of his life. I was fortunate to do it twice, once for Leeds and once for Tottenham.
“Whenever a goalkeeper has scored, the goals get dragged out of the archives and played on the TV. We’re all frustrated strikers because we do it in training, creating realistic crossing situations.
“For him, just going out and getting the game time and experience is the biggest thing. But it just makes me smile every time I see a goalkeeper score because I know the feeling. There is no feeling that recreates that of scoring a goal and it’ll stay with him for the rest of his life.
Josh Keeley at centre of Tottenham attention after heroic moment
“Confidence-wise, he’ll be the centre of attention. Everyone will want to talk to him, talk about that goal, and it’s great. I played hundreds of Premier League games and 40-odd England caps, and all people want to talk to me about now is my two goals.”
Robinson will know exactly how Keeley will be feeling after his dramatic goal in the FA Cup second round, having scored two goals of his own during his playing days.
While the 21-year-old has yet to make his debut for Spurs since arriving from St Patrick’s Athletic in 2022, Spurs have no other choice but to keep a close eye on his development away from North London.
