Tottenham could be shoring up their left-back depth for years to come after offering a two-year scholarship to youngster Ezra Agyekum.
Lilywhite Rose posted on Instagram (3 December) to report that the current Spurs Under-16s defender, who has featured for the club’s Under-18s this season, could make that step-up a permanent one.
The 16-year-old’s two-year scholarship offer would see him move into the U18s setup full-time from next season, taking another step towards a potential first-team debut in the future.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have utilised a number of different options at left-back so far this season, but Agyekum’s emergence despite his tender age could prove to be a first-choice pick for years to come.
Destiny Udogie successor identified in Tottenham Academy
Few players in Postecoglou’s starting XI are more assured of their position in the side than Udogie, who has been a revelation on the left since making his debut for the Lilywhites in 2023.
Udogie may have been ever-present in the Premier League so far this season, but when rested in European games, Postecoglou has shuffled his side, with Ben Davies the most regular deputy.
However, with Davies now 31 and the likes of Archie Gray and Micky van de Ven not natural full-backs, the Australian is still arguably on the lookout for a like-for-like option to use in place of Udogie.
Sergio Reguilon remains on the books in North London, but is unlikely to ever play for the club again with an exit in January mooted [CaughtOffside, 9 November], while Gray has also been linked with a loan switch for more game-time.
Agyekum’s debut likely won’t come for some time given the defender is still only 16, but with Spurs crying out for a natural successor to Udogie, the soon-to-be U18’ss left-back may just fit the bill.
