Ally McCoist returning for a second spell in charge of Rangers has been dismissed by former teammate Derek Ferguson.
The Light Blues’ record goalscorer previously managed the club between 2011 and 2014, stepping up after being assistant to Walter Smith, and the possibility of him stepping in to replace Philippe Clement was raised by talkSPORT colleague Alan Brazil on 31 October, although Gabby Agbonlahor thought it unlikely.
And Ferguson agrees, suggesting that he would be more suited taking up a place on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, after the Scot was reportedly in advanced talks with ITV over the reality show before pulling out [Scottish Sun, 12 November].
The ex-Ibrox midfielder doesn’t expect to see the former striker to be in the frame for a second run as manager any time soon, and believes Kevin Muscat would be a prime candidate to take over if Clement is sacked.
The Belgian is struggling in his first full season as Gers boss, losing away to Celtic, Kilmarnock and Aberdeen already to sit nine points back from the Hoops and the Dons.
However, the Ibrox board have so far resisted calls from the fanbase to remove the 50-year-old, and may be ready to tough it into next season and beyond [BBC Sport, 1 November], but either way Ferguson doesn’t expect McCoist to be involved.
Philippe Clement facing sack pressure as Rangers manager
“McCoist should go into the jungle, he’d win that, so he would,” the pundit said, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News.
“But I don’t see Coisty taking it [the Rangers job]. I mean he’s been there before and I think Coisty’d already stated that it was his dream job.
“But I wouldn’t see Coisty going back, I think he’s a busy enough man as it is.”
