Kris Boyd has slammed Philippe Clement for picking fights and unnecessarily making excuses despite Rangers beating Hibs 1-0 on 29 September.

In his post-match press conference, the Belgian made a scene about how a penalty should not have been given against John Souttar.

At the end of the game, it did not matter as Jack Butland made the save to secure the clean sheet and three points for his side.

Boyd, a Sky Sports pundit told the Scottish Sun: “I just get the feeling that they are excuses. Go and win the games of football and do the talking on the pitch.

“There were a lot of things yesterday, I mean after the game, Philippe Clement, it was a penalty kick.

“Every single person in football knows it’s a penalty kick.

“Looking at it right now, I don’t like it. I’ve got to be honest, I just don’t like it.

“Move on, you’ve won the game. Start your preparations for Lyon.

“Picking fights, I just don’t get it.”

Philippe Clement is aiming to mask the underperformance by Rangers

Boyd is right, Clement cannot be making excuses for such decisions that can go either way.

There was an argument to be made both ways regarding the penalty but it’s the kind of decision the Belgian would’ve lost his mind over if it hadn’t gone his side’s way.

Football is such that there are these kinds of instances that are entirely on the referee’s discretion and even after viewing them 50 times, it’ll still divide opinion.

Gers did not struggle to beat Hibs because of that decision or because they played in mid-week.

Most top teams around Europe play twice a week but very few have the continental hangover over the weekend like Rangers had.

A lot of it is down to the manager and it’s his job to get the best out of his players and get the right results.

There needs to be more work in training to ensure that the team does not give it their all in one game and fall flat in the next one after a few days.

In other Rangers news, Scott Allan has lauded an “incredible” Gers first-team player after what he saw him do recently.
