'I think...' - Alan Myers issues Gnonto update as Everton reported to be on brink of Lindstrom

Everton are still working on a deal to sign Willy Gnonto from Leeds United this summer, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist responded via X on 24 July to indicate the possible transfer is still “ongoing”, while adding that it is also a doable deal.

Everton are believed to be on the brink of signing another winger already as Jesper Lindstrom was on Merseyside for a medical the same day [Fabrizio Romano, 24 July].

The Danish international is set to sign a loan-to-buy agreement where he has a long-term contract waiting for him if the Toffees trigger his permanent option [Tutto Mercato Web, 24 July].

The takeover collapse has been tipped to mean further sales cannot be avoided this summer thanks to the loss of routes to funding once the transfer window shuts [The Esk, 20 July].

But on incoming deals at least it looks like the club’s stance that the transfer window will continue as planned is accurate [Myers, 19 July].

Everton have already brought Jack Harrison back from Elland Road on another loan while signing Iliman Ndiaye from Marseille on a permanent deal to boost Sean Dyche’s attacking options.

And if Lindstrom is set to fill the second loan slot it will have to be permanent deals from here up until the deadline.

The club have reportedly been haggling over the £5m difference between theirs and the Whites’ valuations of Gnonto but an agreement on the fee is thought not to be far off [TEAMtalk, 22 July].

If it is a cash signing then the payment structure is likely to be a key consideration for Kevin Thelwell in light of the potential financial pressures over the coming months, but the fee can be amortised over the length of a contract for profit and sustainability purposes.

It doesn’t look like the technical director is slowing down in his attempts to strengthen the squad, but how much it will still be weakened as he does so might be a concern.
