Ian Darke shares why Tottenham fans should be concerned after what 1st-team player said

Ian Darke is concerned for Tottenham after comments made by Guglielmo Vicario in wake of the defeat to Crystal Palace.

The TNT Sports commentator has pointed out Spurs’ inconsistency and erraticism following their loss at struggling Palace side on Sunday [27 October].

Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered their fourth defeat in the Premier League this season at Selhurst Park, with an equal number of wins to defeats.

Speaking after the game, Vicario told BBC Sport [27 October]: “They fight and I think we lacked that today. We are disappointed because we have to fight.

“We play good football, but maybe we sometimes lack the desire to fight. They showed a real desire to fight for something.”

Responding to those comments, Darke exclusively told Tottenham News: “The goalkeeper Vicario came out and said there was a lack of fight, which is concerning.

“At the moment, they don’t have that quality. They’re erratic and inconsistent.

“It’s curious – they’ve lost four of their nine Premier League games now, and I think the team have to learn to win ugly and eke out results.

It doesn’t have to be super-duper sexy football that gets you out of your seat. They need to grind games out at times.”

Tottenham face Manchester City in Carabao Cup action

It gets no easier for Tottenham, with Postecoglou’s side returning back home across London to host the champions Manchester City in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

The winner of the tie secures a place in the quarter-finals, with the competition a potentially appealing route for the boss to achieve his “second-season trophy” triumph.

A return to Premier League action beckons on Sunday [3 November] against Aston Villa, before a venture to Istanbul to take on Galatasaray [7 November].

In other Tottenham news, John Wenham is disappointed by a lack of playing time for a Spurs player on loan in the Championship.
