Neraysho Kasanwirjo has surely forced himself into the first-team plans at Rangers after an impressive outing in the 2-0 win against Malmo on Thursday night.
Philippe Clement handed the defender his first start for the Gers and was excellent as the side kept a clean sheet in Sweden to begin their Europa League campaign in winning fashion.
Jefte has become the established left-back at Rangers this season but, after a string of underwhelming performances and questions raised about his hot-headed temperament, Kasanwirjo deserves a starting berth against Hibernian on Saturday [28 September] to build on his exceptional European performance.
As Kris Boyd said on Sky Sports News [26 September, 7.41pm]: “Kasanwirjo at left-back was outstanding. The young Dutchman coming in didn’t look out of place at all.”
Neraysho Kasanwirjo can be the solution for Rangers at left-back
The 22-year-old has been a bit part player for the last few years at Feyenoord however it appears that he has found the perfect place to develop his talents in Scotland.
It is easy to forget Rangers completed the deadline day loan signing of Kasanwirjo given Clement has opted to start fellow summer signing Jefte at left-back with limited success.
The Brazilian has failed to look the part in Glasgow with his early season performances barring against Dundee and, while the jury is still out, the defender has made no positive impact in his past few outings to justify keeping Kasanwirjo out of the starting lineup.
Jefte has proven to be unreliable, having been sent off in the Champions League loss to Dynamo Kyiv, which led to the Gers’ exit from the competition, and with Ridvan Yilmaz still reeling from being deemed surplus to requirements over the summer, that leaves only one viable option.
The suspension proved to be a blessing in disguise, Kasanwirjo was ever-present against Malmo on Thursday and linked well with Nedim Bajrami down the left flank, a link-up play that has been missing for the Light Blues whenever Jefte is on the pitch.
Rangers can purchase the Dutchman in a permanent deal at the end of the season, an option that boosts his prospects of becoming a regular starter at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, Nedim Bajrami slammed over something ‘inexplicable’ he did for Rangers v Malmo.
