Ibrox View: Koppen to be on red alert as manager drops update on Rangers-linked striker

Rangers boss Philippe Clement has already moved to strengthen his attacking options at Ibrox this summer with the signing of Hamza Igamane.

The Belgian will have been eager to add a new number nine to his ranks having been so reliant on the goals of Cyriel Dessers last term, but there have been no indications the Moroccon will be the only addition.

Alongside Igamane, the Gers have been linked with a whole host of centre-forwards, including Rapid Bucharest Albion Rrahmani with reports suggesting Rangers are eager to bring him to Ibrox this summer [Football Scotland, 17 June].

Several other clubs are understood to be in the race for his signature, but former Celtic boss and current Rapid manager Neil Lennon may have shared a new update that could impact the Light Blues’ transfer hopes.

As quoted by Football Scotland on Sunday (7 July) he said: “I am so pleased with Albion. I remain hopeful he will stay with Rapid for another season.

“Everyone is watching him, the press are talking about him, but his attitude was great.”

Are Rangers close to any new signings in the summer transfer window?

Only a matter of weeks ago it seemed as though Rrhamani’s departure was almost a foregone conclusion, but now Lennon appears more confident he won’t be going anywhere this summer.

Rangers and their recruitment team will likely be on red alert every time the former Celtic man shares an update on the striker’s future as they wait to see whether or not they can try and swoop in to bring him to Ibrox.

Nils Koppen and Clement will know that they need at least one more forward through the door this summer to really close the gap to the Hoops and Rrhamani could potentially be that man.

The 23-year-old scored 17 goals in 26 matches last term and while the standard of football can be questioned, he seems to have the clinical edge required to be a success in a Gers shirt.

Hopefully, Lennon’s confidence will have been misplaced and he will not be able to keep his star man over the course of the summer window. It would make it a bit sweeter if the Light Blues could steal one of their rival’s best players.
