Ibrox View: Rangers attacker surely checking over his shoulder after recent development

Ross McCausland could struggle for game time under Philippe Clement after his recent injury concerns at Rangers.

The Northern Ireland international was only fit enough to make the bench after missing out on Nations League clashes against Belarus and Bulgaria during the most recent break from club football.

With Rabbi Matondo and Oscar Cortes still sidelined, the 21-year-old would otherwise be expected to return to the lineup once fit enough, but that might no longer be the case at Ibrox.

According to Stevie Clifford, Rangers’ B team substituted 18-year-old Zak Lovelace earlier than planned in the 4-1 win over Stenhousemir at the request of Philippe Clement’s senior staff on 22 October.

This would indicate, with fixtures against FCSB and St Mirren coming up next for the Gers, the winger will be involved in some capacity and build on his four first-team appearances to date.

Ross McCausland to face Rangers snub?

Fans have been waiting patiently for Lovelace to be given his chance in the first team, and after the most recent update, that wish may come true in the Europa League.

While the youngster is naturally a striker, he has been utilised on either flank during his time in the B team, and with Valcav Cerny unlikely to be dropped, McCausland is likely to miss out completely.

With just two goals and an assist in 11 appearances in all competitions this season, his performances for the Light Blues are unlikely to be enough to keep him in contention for a starting spot, or even coming on as a substitute.

Of course, Clement will not want to risk Lovelace too much, having suffered from several injury setbacks since arriving at Ibrox, but it is an exciting prospect for the matches ahead.
