Rangers chiefs should hang their heads in shame after what Connor Goldson has said about the circumstances surrounding his Ibrox exit

The long-serving defender left Rangers for Cypriot side Aris Limassol in July, ending his six-year spell in Glasgow.

Goldson’s departure was rather swift, so much so that he was not given a chance to say goodbye to supporters.

Opening up on his summer departure, Goldson told the Daily Record [17 November]: “Not getting the chance to say goodbye, to my team-mates and the fans, was the hardest bit.

“I was in Birmingham for the friendly and got the call to say the move had all been agreed. With the supporters, whether I was loved or not, I think they’d have given me a great reception and realised everything I’d given to the club.

“It’s a shame but I’m sure one day I’ll be able to come back and do it the right way. I really hope so.”

Connor Goldson deserved chance to say goodbye to Rangers fans

Even if Goldson’s departure felt natural in the summer, with Philippe Clement wanting to rebuild, it sounds as though the club stepped in his way of saying farewell to fans.

Goldson was in Birmingham for the pre-season friendly on 24 July and it would have been fitting for him to come over to the mass hoards of travelling fans.

As it is, he jetted off to Cyprus and that was that. Over 300 appearances for the club and yet he was not given a chance to say goodbye.

The club cannot be blamed for the sale itself, which is thought to have raised up to £1.4million [The Rangers Review], but the circumstances surrounding it – or the final stages, at least – are not so great.

Goldson is now continuing his career abroad, where he is making quite the impression, and Gers fans will wish nothing but the best for him.

Let’s hope he gets a chance to come back to Ibrox and say goodbye to fans at some stage.

In other Rangers news, the club have a chance to make a statement of intent in the January transfer window.
