Rangers senior star baffled by behind-the-scenes struggle he's having

Cyriel Dessers finds it “strange” that he can’t find a new football boot deal despite a positive season with Rangers.

The Light Blues’ forward scored 22 goals in 54 appearances across all competitions in his debut season [FotMob] but has faced criticism.

Now the Nigerian international has admitted to Belgian outlet, Nieuwsblad on 6 July that he doesn’t understand why he can’t secure a boot deal.

He said: “I did get shoes sent to me by Puma in the past few months, but I don’t know how long that will last.

“I find that strange in a way: I feel like I’m at the top of my career, I play for a top club in Scotland, I play in the quarter-finals of a European cup, I’m with the Nigerian team and yet I seem to have a hard time getting a good deal.

“And in the meantime, I see that young guys who have yet to make their professional debut do have a contract. To be clear, I don’t lose any sleep over that, but sometimes I don’t quite understand the logic.”

It is typical for football players to have a deal with a boot provider who will provide them with their equipment for the season.

Now the Gers’ forward is having to purchase his own boots, which isn’t the end of the world but is unusual nonetheless.

Although some fans aren’t sold on the Nigerian, there is no doubt that Dessers had a positive campaign in front of goal in terms of numbers.

With 22 goals being scored by the 29-year-old, there is plenty of opportunity for sponsors to get a return on their investment.

There is a chance that he could have departed Ibrox during the transfer window, especially with links to Lawrence Shankland refusing to go away.

After starting against Hearts on the opening day of the season, there is a positive chance that he will stay in Glasgow for the season.

It seems that Dessers should be able to find a boot provider but it is clear that the forward’s frustration has peaked.
