Former Everton forward Arnaut Danjuma’s comments about a potential move to Liverpool won’t make him a popular figure at Goodison Park.
Speaking to De Voetbalkantine, the ex-Toffees loanee refused to rule out a potential move to the red half of Merseyside in the future, having recently joined La Liga side Girona on loan from Villarreal.
Another loan deal took Danjuma to Goodison Park in July 2023, six months after a prior move fell through, but his fawning comments about their arch-rivals will dissuade any Blues fan from wanting him to return.
In quotes reported by FC Update (27 September), Danjuma said: “I come from Everton, right? As a player you have to be ambitious and if a big club comes, you should always consider it.
“I think there will be few people at the table who will say no to Liverpool.”
Everton fans were glad to see the back of Arnaut Danjuma
It’s not always the case that players truly live up to the hype and billing they’re given upon coming through the doors at a new club, but few have fallen shorter than Danjuma did at Goodison Park.
Having pursued the Dutch international forward for over six months, and seen an initial deal hijacked by Tottenham in January 2023, much was expected when Danjuma finally arrived the following summer.
However, the 27-year-old made less impact than many a Toffees fan would have expected, starting just nine matches in all competitions, including a mere five in the Premier League.
Injuries hit, and hit hard in a turbulent season both on and off the field for Sean Dyche’s side, with Danjuma never able to build up a consistent run of game time and only finding the net twice.
Neither the Toffees nor Danjuma will look back on his loan spell with much fondness, and if – however unlikely – he ever returns to Merseyside in the colours of their rivals, a warm welcome from Evertonians is the last thing he can expect.
In other Everton news, Ashley Young was in the Sky Sports studio to give his verdict on a controversial Premier League moment.
