Ibrox View: Rangers may intensify Shankland pursuit after transfer development in last 24 hours

Rapid Bucharest striker and Rangers target Albion Rrahmani appears to have quelled speculation over a move to Ibrox this summer.

The 23-year-old’s comments indicate that he is unlikely to join Gers, as he explicitly stated his desire to move to one of Europe’s top five leagues.

This does not necessarily mean that their pursuit of Rrahmani is dead in the water, but the chances of that are low.

He said, as quoted by the Daily Record on 10 July: “The new players are very good and we have a strong team now. Mr. Lennon is a very good coach, with a very good game philosophy, which will help us to be better and better.

“I hope to reach the top five leagues in Europe. If a team offers something interesting for the club, I will talk to Mr (Dan). Sucu (Rapid Bucharest owner), and if the offer is also in the interest of the club, I will make a choice. For now I am the Rapid player and I will give 100 per cent for the team.”

Rangers must now prioritise signing Lawrence Shankland

The Hearts striker, 28, who scored an impressive 31 goals last season, is a proven goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership and would be a valuable addition to the squad.

His familiarity with Scottish football would allow him to hit the ground running, while Rrahmani would need time to adapt to the demands of the league.

With the Kosovan effectively ruling himself out of a move to Ibrox, the club should focus their efforts on securing Shankland’s signature to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season.

The 28-year-old is an exceptional striker due to his prolific goal-scoring ability, consistency and versatility.

His ability to link play, create space for himself and produce big moments in crucial games makes him a reliable asset.

Signing him this summer would be a no brainer and it’s something that the fans have wanted for months.

In other Rangers news, a £2.5m bid is being readied with Gers now in advanced talks to secure yet another transfer.
