Ibrox View: Rodgers to run scared of Rangers star after what happened v Tottenham

Vaclav Cerny tore Tottenham to shreds for Rangers in the Europa League clash on Thursday.

The 27-year-old surpassed all expectations at Ibrox [12 December] as his performance ensured Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou endured a torrid return to Glasgow.

However, all attention will now turn to Hampden Park and the Scottish League Cup final clash against Celtic on Sunday [15 December].

And after his performance against Tottenham, Brendan Rodgers will be rightfully running scared of Cerny.

Vaclav Cerny can give Rangers the edge over Celtic

It should stand as no “shock” to anyone that Rangers will be underdogs heading into the cup final against Celtic, but the tide has certainly swung in favour of the blue half of Glasgow heading into the clash.

While Rodgers was scraping a 0-0 draw against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, the Gers were busy making Tottenham look like Raith Rovers in the Europa League.

And Cerny played his part to perfection, albeit the goal that would have capped off his sensational play escaped him, but it wasn’t through a lack of trying.

As per Sofascore, the Czech international fired five shots at the Tottenham goal on Thursday, more than any other player in light blue and had Destiny Udogie on strings down the right flank throughout the contest.

Unfortunately for Rangers, a permanent move for the forward remains unlikely, according to Clement, but that hasn’t stopped the Gers faithful adopting Cerny as one of their own as he establishes himself as a crucial cog in the Ibrox setup.

Clement has the perfect opportunity to ease the growing pressure surrounding his future on Sunday – his best bet – is to let Cerny off the leash at Hampden Park and reap the rewards.

In other Rangers news, Glenn Hoddle was in disbelief at a ‘ridiculous’ incident which occurred in the Gers’ draw against Tottenham.
