Kenny Miller believes Rangers will add to their attacking arsenal after signing Hamza Igamane.

Rangers confirmed the capture of the young Moroccan on Friday, but Miller believes there cannot be pressure on Igamane to be the Gers’ primary source of goals and says strikers will come into the building whether Cyriel Dessers and Danilo leave or not.

The former Light Blues hitman believes Dessers is the likelier to leave in this window, following Greek interest in the forward after a 22-goal debut season in the Scottish Premiership [SoccerNet].

Writing in his column in the Daily Record [7 July], Miller said: “I’ve always felt that if Rangers were going to let either him or Danilo go this summer, it would be Dessers. Just because of his goal return last season.

“If I was the manager, I’d be holding on to Dessers until a replacement is found. And by that, I don’t mean Igamane. I’m talking about a proper, tried-and-tested striker with experience behind him.

“Dare I say it, like Lawrence Shankland, for example. In January, I stated that Rangers had to sign a proven frontman to get them over the line in the title race. They didn’t – and we know what happened after that. Players [like him] know the landscape in Scotland and there’s a lot less risk involved in bringing boys like that to Ibrox. That’s why I’m certain that in the next six weeks or so before the transfer window shuts, you’ll see players come in who are more established.”

Having made clear his views on Rangers’ links with Shankland, Miller also says he is not surprised to see the club enter talks for Kenny McLean.

Whilst a move for the experienced midfielder has stalled, Miller believes McLean would add plenty to Philippe Clement’s squad.

With a mammoth squad rebuild task on the hands of Clement, his staff and scouting chief Nils Koppen, the club have already secured five signings alongside the obligation to buy Mohammed Diomande.

Miller admits he has no idea how the new recruits will adapt to life at Ibrox, citing their relative inexperience, and says the likes of McLean and Shankland would add a crucial nous to the squad.

Having lost players with a wealth of Scottish football pedigree such as Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe and John Lundstram, Rangers must now strike a balance between investing in players for the future and bringing in tried and tested assets to topple Celtic next year.
