'I'm Not A Big Fan' - Keith Wyness unimpressed by Wolves deal for Larsen

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted he is “not a big fan” of loan deals after Wolves signed Celta Vigo star Jorgen Strand Larsen on a loan-to-buy agreement.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed clubs “never get full commitment from loanees” and insisted the 24-year-old will be thinking about “what is in his best interest”.

Wolves have confirmed (2 July) the arrival of Larsen on a loan deal, revealing the player has agreed to join permanently “until 2029” if “certain clauses” are activated.

The 6ft 4in ace, who has 14 Denmark caps, hit 13 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions for Celta Vigo last term.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday (30 June) that Wolves’ option to buy for Larsen is worth around £25million.

Wyness insisted he has “never really believed” in loan deals, claiming there are “too many loose ends”.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Wolves have had a pretty chequered history in terms of bringing young forward talent to the club.

“They paid a lot for Fabio Silva and that didn’t quite come off. There have been a couple more under question too.

“Loan deals are great, to a degree.

“Is the player really committed? Does it benefit both clubs?

“Why would a club loan a player out instead of using him in their squad? If he scores 40 goals, his value will go up.

“I’ve never really believed in loan deals because there are too many loose ends.

“You never get full commitment from loanees, because for me there is always a question mark about whether they are at the club for the long term.

“Larsen will be thinking about what is in his best interest, or ‘what if I get injured?’

“Loan deals are okay, but I’m not a big fan.”
