Rangers are not at crisis point yet despite defeat in a behind-closed-doors friendly on 9 October, according to Hugh Keevins.
Writing in the Daily Record (12 October), Keevins said that Philippe Clement’s side must win their next four matches to alleviate any “crisis”, after losing to a fellow Premiership team.
The Gers are five points behind Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership table after winning their last three domestic games but have also suffered heavy defeats on either side of that.
Keevins said: “I’m told Rangers lost a closed-door friendly with another Premiership side on Wednesday.
“A bounce game defeat doesn’t signal crisis but there are four matches Philippe Clement must win in quick succession after the international break.
“It has to be four wins out of four – or else. That’s the law of the jungle.”
Rangers risk brewing crisis with crucial matches ahead
The six matches in between the last two international breaks proved to be an interesting run for the Gers, with five wins and five clean sheets looking, on paper, to be a successful period at Ibrox.
Coming off the back of a 3-0 hammering at Celtic Park, Clement’s side won matches without conceding a single goal across the Premiership, Scottish League Cup and Europa League.
However, defensive solidity was thrown out of the window against Lyon as the French side triumphed 4-1 at Ibrox, and a 2-0 win over St Johnstone last time out won’t have alleviated much pressure on Clement.
With a chaotic off-field situation and an abundance of vacancies also threatening to overshadow the progress on the pitch, it’s no wonder that the club feels fairly rudderless at the moment.
However, the most important thing for fans is what happens on the field, and for Clement to restore some stability in the eyes of doubters, nothing less than another winning run will do.
