Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Carlos Corberan moving to Leeds United “can certainly happen” despite him being employed at promotion rivals West Brom.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested a “transfer window for managers” would make sense to stop clubs “creating instability” at rivals.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (16 September) that Daniel Farke is “under pressure” at Elland Road after the Whites’ underwhelming start to the season.
Leeds have picked up just eight points from their first five games in the quest for promotion from the Championship.
Meanwhile, sources have told Football Insider (18 September) that West Brom manager Corberan has a £2million release clause in his contract amid longstanding Leeds interest.
The Whites are continuing to keep close tabs on Marcelo Bielsa’s former assistant, who is highly regarded by the Yorkshire giants.
Leeds can ‘certainly’ seal £2m Corberan appointment, says Wyness
When asked if Leeds could realistically poach a manager from their rivals, Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It happens all the time.
“If there’s a buyout clause, and in Corberan’s case I believe it is around £2million, then Leeds just need to pay that fee – and it can happen.
“There’s been a lot of talk about having transfer windows for managers.
“To me, that makes a lot of sense. Trying to create instability in a competitor’s club is wrong.
“Maybe managers should only be allowed to move at the end of each season.
“But with the rules as they are at the moment, Corberan heading to Leeds can certainly happen.”
