'It's true': Journalist says £26m Liverpool target is desperate to play in the Premier League

After the disappointment of missing out on Martin Zubimendi, it appears as if Liverpool are still determined to make the most of these final weeks of the transfer window.

Arne Slot is yet to welcome a single arrival to Anfield, with Richard Hughes intending to deliver Zubimendi as the flagship signing of this new era.

But now that won’t be happening, Liverpool could turn to a Brazilian superstar instead.

Liverpool seem to be exploring several opportunities to add to Slot’s squad now, just perhaps not in the number six role.

In that particular case, it seems as if Slot will now rely on Wataru Endo and a few of Liverpool’s forward-thinking midfielders until at least January.

Perhaps some will feel that decision will ultimately undermine Slot’s start at the club.

The Dutchman is a talented coach but can only do so much without a six to match the likes of Manchester City’s Rodri and Arsenal’s Declan Rice.

And it may now come as a surprise that Liverpool are prepared to commit vital funds into a deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Liverpool target Giorgi Mamardashvili wants to play Premier League football

Journalist Fabrizio Romano shared the news on X on Monday saying that Liverpool were considering a £26m move for Mamardashvili.

Given they’ve already got Alisson as their number one, Liverpool would then intend to loan Mamardashvili out for the season.

Although Kelleher wants to leave Liverpool, Mamardashvili seemingly wouldn’t be content as the club’s number two.

That being said, Georgian journalist Lasha Kokiashvili provided some more insight into the deal when reposting Romano’s initial update.

The journalist said that the 23-year-old was determined to play in the Premier League one day, perhaps hoping to replace Alisson in the future.

Kokiashvili shared: “It is true that Mamardashvili really wants to play in the Premier League one day and he likes the option of Liverpool very much — the parties continue to talks.”

Although Liverpool fans may consider the deal unnecessary, in context of them needing a new number six, there’s little doubt about Mamardashvili’s quality, a keeper destined for big things on evidence of the Euros.
