Jamie Carragher expects to receive abuse from fans after questioning why Orel Mangala didn’t go down in the Everton loss against Aston Villa.
The Blues threw away another two-goal lead to lose 3-2 at Villa Park as Jhon Duran compounded the travelling Toffees with a sensational strike.
It could have been so much different though, as Mangala appeared to be fouled by Ian Maatsen in the dying seconds, only to stay on his feet just inside the box.
Speaking live on Sky Sports [14 September, 19:27], Carragher said: “Why did he not go down there? I will get a lot of abuse on social media now for saying that.”
Everton are in serious trouble after Aston Villa defeat
If Everton were not in serious trouble heading into the international break they are now after throwing away a second consecutive two-goal lead for a loss.
The Blues are the second side in Premier League history to boast such a record, ironically behind Bournemouth, who scored three goals in the final 10 minutes of the match at Goodison Park to win 3-2 before the international break.
Aston Villa dominated the opening 10 minutes and looked certain to take an early lead before Amadou Onana handed the Toffees a golden chance to which McNeil lapped up to take the lead.
Sean Dyche travelled to Villa Park without key personnel such as Jarrad Branthwaite and Seamus Coleman, and the Everton boss needs the pair to return to the side soon as he is seemingly out of ideas with his current options.
The Blues have no problems in front of goal, four goals in two matches makes for good reading but the side cannot continue engaging in shootouts with the opposition and make their lives harder than need be.
Dyche will be under the cosh now at Goodison Park if he wasn’t already, [TBR Football] and it seems only a matter of time before he pays the price for his side’s inability to maintain a lead.
