Jamie Carragher makes brand new Tottenham prediction for 2025

Jamie Carragher hopes Tottenham or Newcastle lift the Carabao Cup in 2025 if Liverpool don’t.

The former Red wants to see a new team lift the domestic title, and if Arne Slot’s team are unable to do so, then Spurs or Newcastle United would be his picks over Arsenal.

Ange Postecoglou’s team qualified for the semi-finals of the cup after beating Manchester United recently and will face the Merseyside outfit in the first leg on 8 January.

In The Telegraph (28 December), Carragher wrote: “And if Liverpool do not win the Carabao Cup, hopefully Newcastle or Tottenham will.

“We need new names on the domestic cups in 2025 and beyond.”

Earlier on in the season, Postecoglou almost promised that he would lift a trophy at the North Londoners this season.

The Australian was successful in terms of silverware during his time at Celtic, and the Lilywhtites faithful will want him to end their 16-year trophy drought.

With the recent dip in form, questions are being raised around the 59-year-old’s future and his style of play at the North London outfit.

Tottenham lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, leaving them 11 points off the top four.

The Lilywhites are also in the Europa League and are seemingly among the favourites to win the competition.

Spurs have gone several years without a trophy, though, and they have often slipped up at the final hurdle, with the most recent defeats in finals coming against Liverpool in the Champions League and Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.

Considering the displays the North Londoners have put in recently, it’s hard to imagine them getting the better of Liverpool, who scored six past them on 22 December.

The Lilywhites faithful will undoubtedly appreciate Carragher’s sentiments, but whether the prediction will come to fruition remains to be seen.
