John Gilligan has rubbished claims that Rangers are without leadership after confirming that director of football operations Creag Robertson will step down,
Robertson is set to leave the Gers in the coming weeks, with the Glasgow-based club already being without a chairman and CEO after losing John Bennett and James Bisgrove in recent months.
However, in an open letter to the fans [Rangers website, 16 October], Gilligan has assured supporters that the club are stable behind the scenes.
“With Creag moving on, I have seen some reports of the club being without leadership,” he said.
“I can assure you that is not the case with George Letham and myself, who have deep knowledge of business and our great club, working tirelessly alongside our executive management team to continue to drive the club forward.”
John Gilligan needs to bring success to Rangers
While having so many vacant positions at the top of the organisation is not encouraging, the Rangers faithful will back the management as long as success is brought to the club.
Gers fans won’t be bothered by the situation in the boardroom if Philippe Clement and the team go on to bring silverware to Ibrox at the end of the season.
However, the instability in the hierarchy is concerning, and if the pitch performances continue to falter, the noise will only become louder.
As things stand, the Glasgow-based club have some catching up to do in the league table and it will be interesting to see how the team will perform against Kilmarnock after the international break.
The Europa League is another competition fans will be looking at after Rangers made it to the final a couple of years back, but the 4-1 loss to Lyon could be damaging for the club’s group-stage prospects.
With the season full in swing, hopefully the Gers will be able to fill the vacant positions quickly and have a smooth transition.
