John Lundstram shared what Ridvan Yilmaz told him ahead of his Rangers exit

John Lundstram was given a vote of confidence by Ridvan Yilmaz ahead of his move to Trabzonspor following his Rangers exit, as shared by 61saat.

The club confirmed [1 June] that the 30-year-old would be one of the five players departing Ibrox at the end of the season upon the expiration of their contracts, and was recently pictured with the shirt of his new club [atcolin].

Revealed by 61saat via Twitter on Monday (24 June), they wrote: “Trabzonspor’s new transfer John Lundstram announced that Ridvan Yilmaz, who plays for Glasgow Rangers, gave him positive information about the city and the club.”

Lundstram became a significant player for the Gers after arriving from Sheffield United in the summer of 2021, amassing 153 appearances at Ibrox.

The midfielder’s reputation at the club was slightly tarnished in his final few weeks at Ibrox, failing to help the Gers claim the Scottish Premiership title over Old Firm rivals Celtic and picking up a red card in the process.

However, Lundstram will always be known for his leadership abilities, and being able to push the squad over the line when called upon, scoring 11 goals in his time at Ibrox.

Yilmaz is certainly a player who could be joining him in Turkey this summer, with the full-back now facing competition from new signing Jefte ahead of next season.

The 23-year-old played much less than he would have hoped, having been struck by injuries throughout the campaign, which saw either Borna Barisic or Dujon Sterling deputise in the position.

Despite Yilmaz’s struggle to hit the ground running, he is slowly becoming a favoured figure at Ibrox due to some of his performances, and fans would now be disappointed to see him leave after just two seasons at the club.
