Derek Clark has called out Sky Sports for mispronouncing the name of Rangers newbie Hamza Igamane throughout the coverage of the Dundee United game.

The Morocco international made his debut for the club during Sunday’s (15 September) Scottish Premiership clash at Tannadice.

The Gers managed to put an end to their poor run of form and came away from Tannadice Park with all three points in a 1-0 win, which now has Philippe Clement’s men sitting comfortably in third place.

Writing via X on 15 September, Clark took a dig at Sky and laid out how to correctly pronounce the 22-year-old’s name.

“Dear @ScotlandSky, it’s pronounced Igaman, not Igaman-ay. You’re welcome,” Rangers Review journalist and broadcaster Clark wrote.

Hamza Igamane could be exactly what Rangers need this season

Although Philippe Clement’s men find themselves third in the Scottish Premiership, it feels like they could’ve done a lot more with their performances this season.

The Gers have dropped points in two of the games which matter most domestically by drawing against Hearts and losing the first Old Firm derby of the campaign.

While players such as Tom Lawrence have come into the 2024/25 season with a fire in their belly, it has felt like the others around him have been fairly lacklustre.

That is until Igamane entered the field. While the attacker may still only be 22 years old, the fact that Clement chose to spend a seven-figure fee on the striker [Sebastien Denis, 5 July] shows the amount of faith he has in him.

When he entered the field he offered a different style of football to Cyriel Dessers, and for the 25 minutes he was on the pitch, he had a fairly solid outing.

As long as the striker can keep fit across the season unlike players such as Danilo, there’s no reason why Clement shouldn’t experiment with the Morocco international leading the attacking line.

In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton was amazed by what a Gers player was called live on Sky Sports.
