Everton could “finally” be on the cusp of changing their transfer regime to something more “lucrative” after their latest links with Fluminense striker Kaua Elias, Chris Beesley has said.

The Toffees have had a poor season thus far with the club currently sitting 16th in the Premier League.

Writing for the Liverpool Echo via their website (18 November), journalist Beesley cited Everton’s interest in Elias [Homme du Match, 9 November] as a possible insight into how the Toffees are going to go about recruiting targets in the future.

“Everton have been linked with Kaua Elias over the past week but could a move for the Fluminense striker finally represent an evolution in transfer strategy from the Blues,” he wrote.

“Identifying youthful talent at an early age and then selling on these rough diamonds once they’ve been polished up into proven Premier League performers has become a lucrative plan of action for some of Everton’s rivals.”

Sean Dyche needs to add some talent to his Everton ranks in January

To put it politely, Everton’s on-pitch performances this season have been mostly poor. The club find themselves in a relegation battle despite their heavy summer spending that saw several new faces welcomed through the Goodison Park doors.

While they’re not in the drop zone just yet, if they don’t manage to get back to winning ways things could end up going from bad to worse for the Toffees.

At the moment there have been no concrete rumours shared about who could make the switch to Merseyside but it’s clear that the Toffees could do with some significant reinforcement.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has underperformed all season and now that ,summer arrival Armando Broja is on the cusp of returning to first-team action, it feels like his days leading Everton’s attacking line could be numbered.

Of course, these are all ifs, buts, and maybes, but if The Friedkin Group doesn’t allow Dyche to strengthen his ranks in the winter transfer window, there’s no knowing how things could end up for Everton.

In other Everton news, Orel Mangala is surely sweating about his Everton future amid links with a new midfielder.
