Journalist shares if Everton gem Jarrad Branthwaite will make England squad for Euro 2024

England manager Gareth Southgate is set to leave Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite out of his final squad for Euro 2024, according to Matt Law.

The Telegraph journalist reported via X on Thursday (6 June) that the Toffees centre-back is set to be one of seven players not be included in the Three Lions squad for this summer’s tournament in Germany.

Branthwaite featured for England in their friendly win over Bosnia and had expected to be included when it was revealed Harry Maguire would miss the tournament, but Southgate had decided to include more attacking players.

Writing on X, Law said: “Gareth Southgate expected to confirm he has left the following seven players out of his final 26-man England squad for the Euros: James Maddison, Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah, Harry Maguire, Jack Grealish, James Trafford and Jarrad Branthwaite.”

Will Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite be going to Euro 2024 with England?

It seems absolutely ridiculous that Branthwaite won’t be part of England’s squad for this summer’s tournament, especially when you consider just how many injuries the Three Lions are dealing with in defence.

John Stones has been in and out of the City squad all season, while Maguire is now set to miss out on the tournament entirely, all while Lewis Dunk has flattered to deceive throughout his international career so far.

There must be a reason the England boss doesn’t believe Branthwaite is yet up to the standard required to make the trip to Germany this summer. It will be interesting to see how he justifies his decision.

Hopefully, the snub won’t impact Branthwaite too heavily. From an Everton perspective, it means he will be back in pre-season training sooner and will likely be fresh and ready for another season at Goodison Park.
