Journalist shares if James Tavernier likely to be on bench for Rangers v Aberdeen clash

James Tavernier is unlikely to lose his spot and be on the bench as Rangers take on Aberdeen on 30 October, according to Joshua Barrie.

The Rangers Review journalist reported on 28 October that despite Neraysho Kasanwirjo starting at right-back over Tavernier on 27 October against St Mirren, the club captain is not expected to be out of favour any time soon.

Gers are set to take on Aberdeen on Wednesday at Pittodrie in what is an important encounter for Philippe Clement’s side.

James Tavernier cannot be a regular for Rangers this season

Tavernier’s role as a regular starter for Gers this season has come under scrutiny primarily due to his increased error rate, which has notably impacted the team’s defensive solidity.

Despite his historical contributions and leadership, the 33-year-old’s age might be catching up, with his performances showing signs of inconsistency.

This season has seen Neraysho Kasanwirjo demonstrate that he can offer a viable alternative at right-back.

Kasanwirjo’s recent start against St Mirren, where he presumably performed adequately, suggests a growing confidence in his abilities.

Dujon Sterling, with his versatility and form, also presents a competitive option.

Clement must now weigh the benefits of Tavernier’s experience against the freshness and potential of younger, possibly more reliable defenders.

This assessment is crucial, especially in a season where every point in the Scottish Premiership counts and tactical flexibility could be key to challenging for honours.
