Everton transfer target Gabriel Suazo feels he can continue to play football in France this summer despite interest from the Toffees, according to Rodrigo Lopez.

The DSPORTS Chile journalist reported on Friday (7 June) that the Toffees have already enquired about the defender’s situation at Toulouse as they begin preparations ahead of the summer transfer window.

However, Sean Dyche’s side is set to face competition from several teams in Ligue 1, with both Lyon and Marseille holding an interest and it is believed that the Chilean international’s preference may be to remain in mainland Europe.

Speaking on DSPORT Chile on Friday, Lopez said: “He believes he can take another step in France, in French football.

“I’m not talking about Paris Saint-Germain but Olympique Lyon that has already considered him, he was on a list, Marseille himself, and even the board of directors too. They have him on the list.”

Will Everton sign Gabriel Sauzo during the summer transfer window at Goodison Park?

Everton are going to find it hard to add to their squad during the summer transfer window with PSR concerns and the ownership situation limiting the funds available to Dyche ahead of the start of next season.

That means the Toffees could well have to rely on players wanting to move to Merseyside ahead of alternative clubs. At this moment in time, it doesn’t feel as though Sauzo wants to make that big step out of France.

Whether Everton’s interest had ever gone ever further than initial conversations remains to be seen, but it would be a surprise to see the defender in Blue next season unless something changes quickly.

While a new left-back would help lighten the load on Vitalii Mykolenko’s shoulders and also ensure that Ashley Young doesn’t have to play out of position, it is unlikely to be one of the priority areas in which Dyche needs to strengthen.
