Neal Maupay is already causing trouble at Everton before stepping back onto the pitch at Goodison Park.

It is difficult to imagine that Sean Dyche is excited about Maupay returning to Everton.

The Toffees have enough off-field issues as it is, with a disruptive changing room presence the last thing they need right now.

And Maupay’s latest social media stunt offered as a reminder that that is exactly what he is.

Following his petulant altercation with Tottenham star James Maddison last season, Maupay wasted no time aiming a cheap dig at the midfielder after he was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

The Three Lions’ 26-man squad for the 2024 UEFA European Championship was confirmed on Wednesday (via BBC Sport, 6 June), with Maddison missing out.

In response, Maupay took to his official X account (6 June) and posted a picture of himself holding three darts.

There was no caption, but on this occasion, a caption wasn’t really necessary.

Everyone knew Maupay’s intention behind the post, and it is difficult to imagine that anyone was impressed.

Everton forward Neal Maupay should take a look at himself after James Maddison dig

While Spurs supporters will be the most vocal about their displeasure with Maupay’s post, Dyche probably has a few private thoughts of his own.

Maupay has made zero impact since joining Everton two years ago and spent last season on loan with Brentford.

One would assume that the 27-year-old would be getting his head down ahead of a return to Everton as he looks to win a place in Dyche’s team next season.

But if anything, this latest social media stunt will have pushed him further away from the starting lineup at Goodison.

It also seems odd considering the Frenchman is nowhere near a place in his own national team.

And it is hard to imagine that Jarrad Branthwaite took much amusement in his teammate’s post after his own England snub.

It was a childish and cheap dig at best which will do nothing but irritate people around Maupay.

Sure, he might get a few likes and laughs from Chelsea and Arsenal supporters, but at what cost?

In other Everton news, an insider at the club has been left shocked by an “enormous” update on a £225million debt.
